LanguageLine Solutions new offer of an additional £20 payment to interpreters working in London to entice them back shows that our collective action works. LLS removed many interpreters from their books in response to them refusing to accept unsustainable rates.
While we were pleased to see that LanguageLine have agreed to reinstate the industry standard cancellation terms, these new fees are still unsustainable and do not meet what our 425 members collectively agreed should be paid. We acknowledge that this recognition of the issue is a huge step forward. However, we urge interpreters to stand firm and not accept this below-standard fee. Our collective action has worked.
We will be contacting LanguageLine and inviting them to meet with us again.
We hope you will agree that this is a win for the Deaf community who deserve properly funded access, a win for BSL/English interpreters and a win for collective action.
In solidarity.
